Edit: Updated this. I wasn't digging the grey-blue wings, and I messed with the whole thing a little bit. Better, I think.
A fellow Castiel fan asked for "badass" Castiel, and I mulled over it for a while. Oh, he can be BA, no question. Sometimes just the tone of his voice makes a dude want to quake in his shoes. But when I think about Castiel, I mostly see his slump-shouldered posture in that big old trenchcoat, head cocked in confusion. It's sweet, but it's not badass, and I was having trouble with ideas.
But if you've been following me for a while, you know I've done a handful of Legion fanart, and I thought, hey shit, I sure would love to see Castiel decked out in Gabriel's armor. I tweaked it some to suit him, and I really dig it. You need a nice outfit to go to battle, right?
I realize I made him left-handed, but why not. And I had only the vaguest reference for wings, so forgive me if they're super anatomically off. I mean, we're talkin' about angels, here, so.

I think this armour looks way better than the costumes in Legion. I'm doing a bit of research into them because I want to make an angel costume at some point (after Kili!). The Legion costumes have some interesting elements but overall they were almost savage costumes. They remind me more of bronze age warriors rather than God's greatest weapons. Castiel looks like a heavenly knight here, I'm almost tempted to cosplay as this exactly. But knowing me I'll always add something along the way. I'm considering working Enochian symbols into the armour and I quite like the cape thing Michael wore in the film, except burgundy or plum velvet rather than flat black fabric. Anyway, know that you have inspired me!
Oh my goodness. This -is- what I thought it was! I cannot express my glee at this! I have been thinking a lot about Legion while catching up on Supernatural lately... The whole brotherly love and angels aspect. Michael and Lucifer break my heart almost as much as Michael and Gabriel in Legion.
Castiel is such the darling though. I agree it's difficult to picture him in a badass position, even though some glimpses of that attitude definitely streak through now and then. Quite honestly I think he can be scary when he's all business no smiles. I'd quake in my boots like a plate of jello on the washer if we ever got to see him in battle gear. While I love the mystery and ambivalence towards his true angelic form, all the talk about his soldier days leaves me wiggling with curiousness.
I think, even accidentally, making him left handed is very appropriate. Left hand is associated with destruction and well he did his share of shaking up the heavenly order among other things. I didn't catch the grey-blue wings, but I love the golden lightening towards the top of these wings. The coloring and lighting in this picture delights me endlessly. Also, I am sorry I haven't spoken up before on your other works! I love all of your art. It always makes me happy to see. I just couldn't contain myself when I saw such a lovely cross over. I adore every piece you create, whether it's fanart or some sweet n' lush original art.

And more than anything else here (and I really like the colouring etc), I love his expression ! So serious and badass
Brilliant !
