These are characters from Amanda Cook's graphic novel-in-progress, Death & Taxes. Andromalius, goodhearted demon, and Cora, our heroine, here as a little girl. He's been watching out for her all her life.

Amanda realized pretty recently that she's been drawing Andromalius for many years with Benedict Cumberbatch's face, long before she'd ever seen him. That's something pretty special. He looks awfully nice in blue.

I've been stressing out lately over dumb things, getting pretty emotional. I hate that sometimes it takes someone I love hurting for me to step back and see how happy and easy things are for me. When my friends are dealing with hard things, all I want to do is be there and wrap my arms around them. When I'm on the other side of the world, all I can do is draw it out.

Sleep, baby, sleep. Have sweet dreams.

Your work is always so calming and dream like, I love that you've drawn Death and Taxes, it just makes me love you more! I love it when artists actually find the perfect face for their characters, even before they've seen/heard of them. I did that to one of my old characters, he ended up being exactly like a lead singer from a band.

Anyway..I just love this and the best part for me would be the eyes

I don't have a pint of clue as to who Benedict Cumberbatch it, but I love the depth radiating in his face. Like he's pulling the pain away from her and right into his lovely eyes. <3 And those hues! They're so bright, but I'm guessing that would be in line with the traditional colors of graphic novel artistry. The few graphic novels and comics I've picked up have used mostly primary colors. But there's life in this with the changes in hues and the way you rise and let fall the contours.

On a note of stress, an unofficial mama (Tara's mother in law) came up today for Tara's youngest's first birthday, and brought with her a necklace for me. It's a caged locket pendant, and in it is a tiny cube infused with oils for soothing. I've felt absolutely blissful all day and almost cried when she gave it to me. Di has been absolutely huffing it (she's a sucker for lavender, and it's one of the oils) so she promised to bring her one next time. I love this woman. She's one of those Earth-Mother types, who says she is an Eclectically Spiritual Animist. New term for me. I usually stuck to the vague neo-pagan idea, but the definition fits what Di and I both built ourselves into over the years.

I really do love what this story has the potential to become, and I thank you for putting this bit of artwork up for all to see to know that it was even out there. Your comment is also exactly what I needed to hear and be reminded of right now. It works both ways, I will be reaching out to them when I know they need me, and no matter how far away I am from those I love, if I'm hurting they will always keep me wrapped up in their hearts as well.
