Noodle plays the shamisen. Her kimono is patterned with Hokusai's Great Wave.
When I'm feeling blue, I like to listen to the one and only Incubus song that I don't hate: "Aqueous Transmission", a lovely, meditative piece with shamisen, eastern strings, a heartbeat rhythm and the sounds of night creatures softly chirping. That's what I hear when I look at this. That's how Noodle usually makes me feel.
Praise be to Jamie Hewlett for the borrow of his Gorillaz.

Might I ask about how you go about acheiving the patterning? is it just a flat pattern with some shading applied on a seperate layer, or some clever channels trickery?

It was, like... cut and paste? With some shading?
The only bad-ish critique I've got for you (which I came up with after staring and oggling her forever, being totally awestruck), is that I think you should have drawn her upper arm showing a little bit, behind her lower arm, inside the sleeve of the kimono. It slightly looks like it's floating in the air. Other than that, the anatomy and perspective is stunning.
Smooth, lovely lineart as always! Especially her hair. I... I want to... pet it..!
