Birthday girl

1 min read
Aw, jeez, thanks for all the nice birthday greetings, you guys! :) I have to say, even though I haven't been as artistically active this year, you've been incredibly supportive, enthusiastic and encouraging. People talk a lot of smack about the DeviantArt crowd, but I've been extremely lucky to have such a great group of viewers. You make it fun. Extra fun!

I've gotten a flux of requests recently for commissions or art trades, etc. Just a reminder that I am not taking commissions, and I really don't do requests. I have no plans to take commissions again, except for knitting. I am super grateful and flattered that people like my work, though!

Thanks to everyone for understanding. <3

I've been tagged by :iconsingitsister:, and I'm going to answer all the questions on her blog, because it looks like fun;

1. Favorite band right now?
The Black Keys. I mean, I've loved them for years, but I listen to the radio a lot, and (at the risk of sounding like a crotchety old lady), most of what's on contemporary radio is total junk. But when I hear "Gold On The Ceiling" or "Lonely Boy", I lose my shit. I sing along, smack the roof of the car. Akron boys know how to get the job done.

2. What's the most exciting thing you've done so far?
In my entire life, probably moving across the planet to Hawaii.

3. WHY do you want fries with that?
Because I'm having lunch at The Counter, and I'm ordering a heap of shoestring sweet potato fries with garlic aioli, obviously.

4. If you were to describe your art with a song, which song would it be?
Most of the time, I put a song in the artist comments, because I was listening to it at the time. I love when other people do this, too.

5. First word that pops up when you read, "mashed potatoes."
Snow. Kit and I used to work at this little Ohio coffeehouse together. One time, in the dead of winter, we closed up, went to the parking lot and discovered that my old Buick had a dead battery. Worse, it was snowing like a mother and our car was freezing. We called our darling mother and waited for her to show up, shivering and getting delirious in the car. We were starving, too, fantasizing about the food we'd eat when we got home. Kit wanted mashed potatoes, and we started to laugh because the colder we got, the harder it was to say "mashed potatoes". So here we were, giggling and saying "mashed potatoes, mashed potatoes, mashed potatoes" until we were rescued.

6. What is something that you've been longing to draw but didn't because of various reasons?
It would be pretty awesome to have the skill and stamina to draw a full-length Jenny-centric comic, but I'm just too goddamned lazy.

7. During a zombie apocalypse you and three of your friends ______, _____, and ______ are stuck in a small house but the zombies cannot get inside. You have a bunch of time. There are four chances of survival;
a. someone willingly sacrifices themselves by running out of the house in one direction while the rest of you escape in the other direction,
b. You find a small hand grenade that will be powerful enough to kill all of the zombies but you have to attract them with  a large body part like a thigh or a chest.
c. You create a gas that can put the zombies to sleep (don't know how.. so don't ask) but it will take the blood of one whole person to create that gas. (different people's blood cannot be used because there is a chance that the different blood types will mix and cause the plan to fail)
d. There is a strong basement under the house, sort of like a bomb shelter. Three of you fit in there but the fourth must stay behind. There is a grenade and the fourth person must stay in the house and blow up the house and the zombies, dying in the process.
Question is, which of your friends and yourself would do which
Who would run out as a distraction, who would give a leg, who would die of blood loss, who would get blown up basically...

Ha! I only have two friends! :D Also, if the zombie apocalypse happens, I plan to just go out swingin'.

8. What music inspires you to draw most?
It's really all over the map, but I think soul music inspires me the most.

9. If you could learn one artistic skill (acrylic painting, oil painting, pastel art, sketching) which would it be?
Watercolor, I think. I don't know squat about watercolor.

10. Three wishes, what are they? (CANNOT WISH FOR MORE WISHES!)
+ That people were unable to harm each other. Nobody would have superpowers, accidents would still happen, but people couldn't hurt or kill.
+ For the world's oceans to be entirely clear of garbage (forever).
+ People could only have children if they passed a test proving their fitness as a parent. (There would be exceptions for surrogates and people helping parents unable to get pregnant.)

I finally got off my butt and ordered prints of a bunch of stuff;

For all those who've been asking for Jenny prints, especially of "Fire escape", there yez go! I've got 8"x10"s and 8"x12"s, depending on the dimensions, and little 4"x5"s or 4"x6"s of each one. I've also got one poster-sized print of each of those first three, and they all look AMAZING. I have to say, I'm always thrilled by the quality of these things. (Had to blur out Jenny's boobs in that first one, for all ya prudes, but REST ASSURED, they are pristine in print.)

If there are other drawings in my gallery that you'd really like to see available as a print, let me know and I'll see if it's something I can do!

Haven't done one of these in a while. Seems as good a time as any!

This month I'm into;
+ Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
+ baking dozens of super-delicious Russian tea cookies
+ re-reading Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential for the billionth time
+ getting a job, at freakin' last
+ trolling for seashells on the Pipeline with Kit (and spying sea turtles)
+ listening to Car Talk podcasts at the gym (to justify all the tea cookies)
+ old friends showing up in dreams
+ dropping flowers on the giant blowfish living in my neighborhood pond
+ Everything and anything by Raphael Saadiq
+ RHUBARB RHUBARB RHUBARB

What are you into this month?
