Alternately titled Lucas rethinks his relationship.

He had picked her up on an empty stretch of Texas highway in a stolen El Camino. She was 23, unfettered, afraid of nothing. Looking back, she felt it was by sheer luck that she didn't end up dead in the desert. They were matched for crazy.

"I will show you," he'd said, months later, quiet and dangerous, "That there is no other man for you but me. No one else."

Which struck her romantically at the time, a part of his deadly appeal. But Jenny, in a rare moment of clarity, recognized that this could never end well if it didn't end quickly.

She couldn't just walk away -- after all, she knew how he really got his money, the lengths to which he'd go and the kind of blood that was on his hands. So she fought crazy with crazy. That's how she acquired her first gun, an Italian Beretta pistol, slipped casually from his hip holster while he was otherwise engaged.

She would never know it, but he was actually in love.
